Alfred Matthew
Turner III, age 57, of Kelly Lake, passed away August 2, 2010,
with his family at his side while briefly hospitalized in
Flagstaff, Arizona. “Fred” was born June 29, 1953, to the late
Major Alfred and Bette Rae Turner (of Kelly Lake) at Fort Ord
US Army Hospital, California. After high school, Fred took a home
study course in specialty electronics. This led him to a long
career with Marquette Electronics (GE Team) repairing high
tech healthcare electronics.
He struggled with what to do
with his life following a divorce and chose to travel. He had
some property in Athelstane, Wisconsin, and entertained the locals
with his wit and his own karaoke set-up, fondly referred to as the
“Karaoke Cowboy”, before deciding to hit the road. He traveled
to all corners of the United States spending extended periods in: Pennsylvania (with his brother Richard's family), Florida,
California, Oregon, and many states in between. He also made several return trips to Wisconsin to stay with his sister Lynne's family in Green Bay and Kelly Lake and was currently planning that same trip when he fell ill.
His early and teen
years were spent in Arizona, and he always had a desire to
spend more time there which led him again to Flagstaff last
year, where he traveled the Grand Canyon state and enjoyed the
local scenery.
He was preceded in death by his parents and
grandparents, an aunt and uncle, a nephew, and a cousin.
He is
survived by his brother Richard (Dale) Turner, Montrose,
Pennsylvania; his sister Lynne (Ben) Turner-Peer, Green Bay and Kelly Lake,
Wisconsin; his nephew Peter (Pam Galvin) Cherney, Pulaski, Wisconsin; his nephew
Richard Thomas Turner, Montrose, Pennsylvania; his nieces
Monica and Katherine Turner, Montrose, Pennsylvania; his grand
niece Alexis Cherney, Pulaski, Wisconsin; his cousins Eva Lou
and Jayne "Honey" Anderson, Shawano, Wisconsin; and his daughters
Angela and Trisha Turner, West Bend, Wisconsin.
Funeral plans are still pending. Fred's wishes were to be cremated and buried at the Hickory Cemetary with his parents and grandmother. Norvel Owens Mortuary of Flagstaff, Arizona, assisted with the cremation and his sister Lynne and nephew Peter escorted his ashes back to Wisconsin.
